Volunteer for PowerShift BC!

Powershift BC is a youth led organizing initiative that will bring 1000+ people from diverse backgrounds across BC and the northwest together to build a movement for climate and environmental justice. It will be taking place from October 5-7th in Victoria and will look at the intersections between environmental and social justice issues, build skills for collective action, and be a space for engaged youth to network and learn from each other.

We are looking for enthusiastic and skilled individuals with a diverse range of experience to be part of the organising team of Powershift BC. We need individuals to join our various working groups as volunteers, as well as people to step up tobottom-line (or co-bottom-line) each of the working groups to ensure that things are moving forward effectively and promptly.

The working groups are:

  • Outreach and Recruitment,
  • Media and Communications,
  • Logistics,
  • Programming,
  • Fundraising,
  • Action and Advocacy Day,
  • Anti-Oppression
  • Art

You can sign-up to join any of these working groups with this form.  It will ask you which working group(s) you are interested in; if you are unsure of which working group to join, you can pick more than one and let us know more about your interests + skills on the form and we can place you where you will fit best.  For more information on the working groups and structure, please see the attached document.

We need folks to sign-up for working groups asap so that working group calls can start right away.  This will be the ideal time to learn about Powershift, how you can be most effective, give your input, and meet the others in your working group.  Moreover, nominations for working group "bottomliners" (folks who are accountable to make sure things are running smoothly and getting done within the working group) will be made on this phone call.  Therefore, while new volunteers and working group members will be accepted on an ongoing basis in the lead up to Powershift, the real framework to get the ball rolling starts next week.
