When and where is PowerShift taking place?
PowerShift will be taking place in the Ottawa-Gatineau region from October 26th to 29th, 2012. Find out more about the schedule here.
How much does the conference cost?
The conference cost is $45 per person; however, if you sign-up before our early bird registration deadlines you can get discounts of $5 or $10. Participants who are unable to afford this cost will be able to apply for scholarship funds.
Can I get my travel to Ottawa for PowerShift paid for?
Frontline and low-income participants will be able to apply for scholarship funds to cover their travel and other costs of participation. In general, however, we recommend that participants do fundraising in their communities (events, applying to student union, union, or local foundation funds, etc) to cover their costs.
How do accommodations (for accessibility needs and adaptive measures) work?
When you register you can explain any accommodations that you need in the registration form. If you are requesting accommodations, the earlier you apply, the more likely we will be able to make the necessary arrangements. We will be in touch with you to follow through on your accomodation requests. All activities are in physically accessible spaces and ASL / LSQ translation can be made avaliable for many events if requested (through the registration form) with over one month advance notice.
Will PowerShift be bilingual?
PowerShift will be taking place in both english and french. Our large plenaries will have both anglophone and francophone speakers, during which we will have simultaneous translation. For workshops, the majority will be taking place in english or bilingually, however we will also have french workshop options at all times.
Will childcare be offered during PowerShift?
We will have a childcare space throughout the PowerShift conference. If you would like to take advantage of this, please indicate this on the registration form.
Who is PowerShift for?
PowerShift is targetted at youth between the ages of 18 and 30 interested in social change and building a movement for social, environmental, and climate justice. People who are interested, but fall outside this age range, are welcome to attend as long as they understand that most participants will be 18 to 30. Keen youth under 18 are encouraged to attend, however we request that they apply through a separate form before registering.
